Invasive plant removal planned along major Oakland County roadways

OAKLAND COUNTY, MI – The Road Commission for Oakland County and numerous local governments, working in conjunction with the Oakland County Cooperative Invasive Species Management Area, will treat the invasive plant varieties knotweed and Phragmites along major Oakland County road right-of-way areas through October 2026.

Turtle Woods reaches major milestones on path to Troy’s first county park

TROY, MI – Plans for Troy's first Oakland County park have reached two major milestones: Oakland County Parks has completed the acquisition of Turtle Woods, and the Oakland County Parks and Recreation Commission has approved the park's concept plan. The 70-acre natural area is moving toward a Fall 2027 opening with accessible trails and boardwalks, a trailhead, parking, restrooms, wayfinding and educational features. Residents can review the plan, follow project updates and provide feedback on design details through OCP's Co-Creation Lab: bit.ly/3OJs90m.

Calling all cats, dogs and runners – register now for Tails and Trails 5K 

OAKAND COUNTY, MI –The third annual Tails & Trails 5K promises to be a paws-itively exciting event for dogs, cats, racers and spectators. Sponsored by McLaren Oakland, the race is set for Sunday, Aug. 16 at Independence Oaks County Park.

The Tails and Trails 5K is open to participants of all ages and kicks off at 10 a.m. with a Cat Walk 1K. The 5K race begins a half hour later and will take runners along Independence Oaks’ trails. It will raise money through donations for Great Lakes Dog Rescue and Teacher's Pet.

Oakland County Parks expands in southeast Oakland County with ribbon cutting for transformed Oak Park Woods 

OAK PARK, MI – A major renovation of Oak Park Woods at Shepherd Park opened to the public with a ribbon cutting today. Oak Park Woods at Shepherd Park is Oakland County Parks’ 17th county park and its first in the City of Oak Park. The park is owned by the City of Oak Park and operated in partnership with Oakland County Parks, creating a long-term county parks presence in one of southeast Oakland County’s most densely populated communities.
