Summer at the market

Summer is always a busy time at the Oakland County Farmers Market! In addition to events like the Moonlight Markets and the popular Yoga and Tai Chi Wellness Series, the market is filled with all kinds of locally grown produce, including salad greens, peppers, cherries, peaches, herbs and more. Discover an array of bright, fresh summer-themed artisanal foods and crafts, home decor items and other products like Oakland County Farmers Marketsoaps, candles and much more available for sale. Taking the time to explore the market is the perfect way to spend a warm, sunshine-filled summer day!

The Oakland County Farmers Market is open from 7 a.m.-1:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from May through December and Saturdays only January through April.

Farm-fresh produce is healthy, supports local businesses and helps protect the environment. Check out the Michigan Produce Availability Guide to see when fresh produce will be in season and be sure to visit often to see what treasures you'll find this summer!

Current Hours

The Oakland County Farmers Market is open from 7 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays through the end of December.

Gleaners Food Distribution

Families and individuals in need of food are encouraged to attend a drive-up distribution event presented by Gleaners Community Food Bank from 9-10 a.m. Wednesdays, Sept. 16 and Oct. 14.

Yoga, Tai Chi Wellness Series

The Oakland County Farmers Market Wellness Series features free, 45-minute yoga lessons with Studio 8 Fitness instructors from May through September. Mark your calendar for the final Thursday Lunchtime Yoga session from noon-12:45 p.m. on Sept. 17.

The session will be held outdoors on the grassy area to the west of the market building. Free yoga mats are available for the first 10 yoga participants. The Market Wellness Series is Presented by University of Michigan Health C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital & Trinity Health Oakland Hospital and Dr. Anil Kumar with Healthy Horizon Sponsor McLaren Oakland.

In case of inclement weather, program will be canceled. Watch the market’s Facebook page for updates. This program is hosted by the Oakland County Farmers Market in collaboration with Healthy Oakland Partnership.

Oakland Uncorked

Sip, savor and celebrate during Oakland Uncorked, Oakland County’s premier tasting event featuring wine from around the world, local craft beers, handcrafted cocktails, creative mocktails and gourmet food experiences. This year’s event is scheduled from 6:30-9:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9 at the Oakland County Farmers Market.

More than 15 restaurants are scheduled to attend the event including Breadless, CJ’s Brewing Company, Fogo de Chao, Fresh Mexican Grill, Greek Jalapeno, Green Lantern Pizza, Hosel Rockets Golf & Whiskey Lounge, Mojave Cantina, Nothing Bundt Cakes, Park 600, Peppermint Village, Plaza Garibaldi, Red Wood Grill, Square One Eats & Treats, Via Bologna and Village Place.

Samples of wine will be poured by distributors while a selection of local craft beers will be offered by local restaurants, handcrafted cocktails from Zetouna Liquor Store and creative mocktails provided by the Waterford Community Coalition.

All food and beverage tastings are included, just come ready to sip, taste and enjoy. Live music will be provided by Frankly Good Music. Guests are also invited to bid during the silent auction and shop for unique items among the local artisan displays.

Oakland Uncorked is hosted by the Waterford Area Chamber of Commerce, Oakland County Parks and the Oakland County Farmers Market.

The Market Sponsor is Action Water Sports. Tasting sponsors are Changing Places Moving, Security Credit Union and Vibe Credit Union. Artisan sponsors include A World of Glass, Go To Gatherings and Farm Bureau Insurance - The Milner Agency.

Early bird tickets are $75/person until Aug. 31. Beginning Sept. 1, the price is $85/person. Tickets can be purchased at WaterfordChamber.org. Guests must be 21 or older.

Senior Market Day

Senior Market Day is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 24 at the Oakland County Farmers Market. Oakland County residents age 60 and older can visit the market, complete a short, one-page survey and receive a coupon voucher for $5 to use toward the purchase of fresh fruits and vegetables. The coupon must be used on this day only.

Moonlight Market

The Oakland County Farmers Market is hosting a special Moonlight Market from 4:30-9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9. Shop vendors while enjoying food options, inflatables (socks required) and yard games during this evening of family fun after hours. For details, call 248-858-5495 or email OCmarket@oakgov.com.

Want to be a vendor at the Moonlight Market? Vendors offering products made in Michigan and fresh produce, locally-sourced goods, handcrafted artisan products and handmade gift items are welcome. Cost is $39/booth.

Senior Market Fresh

Throughout the summer, individuals can participate in Senior Market Fresh. This program is for Oakland County residents ages 60 and older who have a total household income of 185% or less of the poverty level. 

Once participants attend a one-time class on healthy eating, they will receive $25 in fruit and vegetables benefits on a benefit card to use through Oct. 31. The benefit cards can be used at any farmers market that accept Senior Market Fresh coupons, including the Oakland County Farmers Market.

About

The Oakland County Farmers Market provides grower-direct fresh produce, flowers and hand-made goods. Vendors showcase their products via indoor and outdoor stalls. Red Wood Grill provides on-site BBQ fare. Special events are held throughout the year, including Oakland Uncorked, Spring Flower Days and Moonlight Markets. Regular programming is hosted by Michigan State University Extension and Master Gardeners, as well as the Oakland Conservation District.
